Ed O’Neill (Al Bundy)
Younger readers will no doubt recognize Ed O’Neill as the patriarch of the Pritchett family in ABC’S award-winning sitcom Modern Family. Before he was wrangling Joe, Manny, Stella, and Gloria, he starred as the long-suffering Al Bundy in Married With Children.
Charming viewers with his dry sense of humor, O’Neill has had a hugely successful career, starring in films such as Wayne’s World, Wreck-It Ralph, and Finding Dory. He has been nominated for countless Emmys, SAG Awards, and Golden Globes.
David Faustino (Bud Bundy)
Child star David Faustino assumed the role of Bud Bundy when he was only 13 years old! Arguably the most loveable and brainy Bundy child, Bud was a fan favorite thanks to his unsuccessful romantic liaisons and goofy alter ego, ‘Grandmaster B.’
After the show ended, Faustino continued to appear on screen, and he now works in the radio industry as the host of Old Scratch Radio Sundays on SkeeFM. In 2013, he even appeared on Modern Family alongside O’Neill!
Christina Applegate (Kelly Bundy)
The stereotypical “dumb blonde” character Kelly Bundy was played by none other than Christina Applegate. You may recognize her as Veronica Corningstone, Will Ferrell’s foil in the much-loved Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy movie franchise. However, Married With Children was her big break in the entertainment industry.
Today, she enjoys a successful Hollywood career, having earned a host of Tony and Golden Globe nominations. Her most recent roles have been in comedies Crash Pad and A Bad Moms Christmas.
Ted McGinley (Jefferson D’Arcy)
Ted McGinley starred on Married With Children as the handsome scam artist Jefferson D’Arcy. Having previously appeared on beloved ’80s shows Happy Days and Dynasty, McGinley didn’t quite hit the big time in Hollywood like some of his co-stars.
However, he did bag a regular role on sitcom Hope & Faith, and took to the dancefloor in Dancing With the Stars in 2008. His most recent role was in the independent Christian drama, God’s Not Dead: A Light in the Darkness.
David Garrison (Steve Rhoades)
David Garrison featured in Married With Children as self-centered banker Steve Rhoades. Before he was a star on the show, he was a theater actor. He decided to go back to his roots when Married With Children ended, assuming the legendary role of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the first U.S tour production of Wicked.
Garrison still performs on stage, and he recently made an appearance as Professor Walter in Tina Fey’s hit Netflix sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
This news may bring a tear to your eye! Dog lovers, keep scrolling. The beloved Bundy family dog Buck was played by an adorable tri-colored Briard named Michael. The talented pup appeared in 177 episodes of the hit show.
Indeed, this wasn’t his only taste of fame, as he also starred in Janet Jackson’s music video for ‘When I Think of You!’ Buck was killed off in the show, and unfortunately, Michael also passed at the old age of 13.
Harold Sylvester (Griff)
Even minor characters like Griff were beloved by Married With Children fans! Griff was Al Bundy’s pal and fellow employee at the shoe store. He was also a member of Al’s ‘National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood’ organization, aka ‘NO MA’AM!’
Griff was played by Harold Sylvester, who featured in a number of shows such as CSI: Miami, Malcolm in the Middle, and The Army Show. Today, he keeps out of the limelight and hasn’t been on screen since 2015.
David Boreanaz (Frank)
Kelly went through many deadbeat boyfriends throughout the course of the show. David Boreanaz starred as unfaithful biker Frank, who cheated on Kelly at the movies and was beaten up by Al as a result!
Married With Children was one of Boreanaz’s early roles, and he went on to become a huge star as Angel in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. After Buffy spin-off — Angel — finished, his stardom continued to rise as he bagged a lead role in the drama, Bones.
Katey Sagal (Peggy Bundy)
Even if you haven’t seen Married With Children, you will definitely recognize Katey Sagal. A professional TV mom, she isn’t scared of being typecast and relishes the opportunity to star as a matriarch. Since MWC ended, she has featured in popular shows including Futurama, Sons of Anarchy, and 8 Simple Rules.
Sagal’s portrayal as Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy won her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 2011.
Amanda Bearse (Marcy D’Arcy)
Al’s nemesis, Marcy D’arcy, was played by Amanda Bearse. The annoying neighbor of the Bundy household, Marcy was a feminist eco-activist who constantly butted heads with O’Neill’s character.
Apparently, O’Neill and Bearse also didn’t get along in real life. If rumors are to be believed, she didn’t invite him to her wedding! Bearse keeps a low profile nowadays. Her last significant roles were in the FX series Anger Management and 2020’s Sky Sharks, a comedy-horror B-movie about flying zombie sharks.
E.E. Bell (Bob Rooney)
E.E Bell was known for playing Al’s pal and treasure of ‘NO MA’AM,’ Bob Rooney. Weirdly, Bob Rooney was always referred to using his full name, even by his family members. E.E Bell is no stranger to playing quirky characters, as he was a regular star on the wacky Nickelodeon sketch show The Amanda Show, alongside Amanda Bynes.
Today, he continues to gain roles in children’s TV, with parts on Drake and Josh, Good Luck Charlie, and Shake It Up.
Shane Sweet (Seven)
It’s safe to say that audiences hated the unusually named Seven. He was introduced to the show as part of a crazy plotline — as Peggy’s wild hillbilly family dropped off a child to the Bundy’s home for them to adopt!
This cherubic kid was played by Shane Sweet, who went on to star as Josh Stevenson in Nickelodeon’s The Journey of Allen Strange. Today, he is one of the voice actors behind superhero sidekick Robin in the DC Animated Universe!
Matt LeBlanc (Vinnie Verducci)
Everyone will recognize this face. Before he was Joey Tribbiani or Dr. Drake Ramoray, Matt LeBlanc was an unknown actor who was trying to make his break into the entertainment industry. His role as Vinnie Verducci on Married With Children was one of the first roles of his career — before he became a household name.
He had such star potential that producers made Vinnie the main character in two short-lived spinoffs, Top of the Heap and Vinnie & Bobby.
Joey Lauren Adams (Cousin Effie)
Fans of Kevin Smith movies will know Joey Lauren Adams as the leading lady in Chasing Amy, and star of Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. She was not always a cult movie star. Before she was part of Smith’s ‘View Askewniverse,’ Adams was on Married With Children playing Cousin Effie.
She also appeared in the spinoff Top of the Heap alongside Matt LeBlanc. She recently starred in Still the King and the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
Traci Lords (T.C./Vanessa Van Pelt)
Traci Lords was part of Married With Children on two occasions. In season four, she starred as dental assistant T.C. In season six, she returned, starring as a character in Al’s imagination!
Lords has had a colorful career since appearing on the show, with a host of films under her belt including John Waters’ cult comedy Cry-Baby, sci-fi smash Blade, and horror flick Excision. She also launched a successful music career, releasing one album named 1000 Fires and one E.P.
Giovanni Ribisi (Teddy)
Giovanni Ribisi appeared on Married With Children when he was only 11 years old! A bonafide child star, he made the move into serious acting when he grew up. You may recognize him from his role in Friends as Frank Buffay Jr.
He has had an illustrious career, appearing in over 100 roles from Lost in Translation to Avatar to Seth MacFarlane’s Ted. He is currently working on the next Avatar films to be released in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
Tia Carrere (Piper Bauman)
’90s movie buffs will see Tia Carrere’s face and immediately associate her with Mike Myers’ Wayne’s World films. Her big break was in soap opera General Hospital, but her uniquely stunning looks saw her starring in Married With Children as Kelly’s rival at modeling school.
Since then, she has starred in films True Lies, Showdown in Little Tokyo, and High School High. Today, she mainly works in voice acting. Did you know she voiced Nani in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch?
Juliet Tablak (Amber)
Juliet Tablak only starred in four episodes of Married With Children, but her character certainly made an impact! She played a troubled girl named Amber who was sent to live with the Bundys’ neighbor Marcy, only to begin a love affair with Bud!
Interestingly, Tablak turned her back on the acting world after Married With Children. Today, she leads a fulfilled and happy life as a chiropractor, owning a clinic in Los Gatos, California. Talk about an interesting career change!
Keri Russell (April Adams)
The adorable April Adams was Bud’s classmate and intern at Marcy’s bank. She may only have appeared in one episode, but this role was a big break for upcoming actress Keri Russell. Back then, she was a relatively unknown actress playing a minor character on the show.
But today, Russell is a famous face in Hollywood, starring in The Americans alongside Matthew Rhys. In 2019, she was even featured in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Iqbal Theba (Iqbal)
Iqbal Theba shares a name with his Married With Children character. However, his real life is pretty different from his screen equivalent! The fictional Iqbal is the owner of The Jiggly Room, a seedy sports bar and favorite hangout of Al Bundy and the NO MA’AM crew.
Whereas Iqbal Theba is an esteemed actor who has appeared in many TV shows and movies over the years including ER, Glee, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Community, Arrested Development, NCIS, and Nip/Tuck.
Krista Allen (Crystal Clark)
Krista Allen starred in Married With Children as a Trumaine University student with a juicy secret. Since appearing on the show, her career has gone from strength to strength. You may have seen her in The X-Files, The CW series Significant Mother or soap opera Days of Our Lives.
In 2002 she appeared in George Clooney’s directorial debut Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Today, she still appears in popular television shows, and works as a qualified yoga teacher.
Pamela Anderson (Yvette/Cashew)
Pamela Anderson is another household name who got her big break on Married With Children. Notorious for her glamorous looks, she guest-starred in the show twice. Both times, she appeared as a figment of Al’s female obsessed imagination!
Today, she divides her time between acting and animal rights activism. Her most recent role was in the French crime film — Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon — and in 2018, she appeared on the French version of Dancing With the Stars.
Milla Jovovich (Yvette)
Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich starred on Married With Children as a mysterious French foreign exchange student who lived with the Bundy family for one episode. She stole all of the attention from Kelly at school, thanks to her dazzling beauty.
Jovovich’s career continued to skyrocket after starring in the show. You will most likely know her as the leading lady in the Resident Evil franchise. A multi-talented woman, she has also released two albums and owns her own production company.
Tiffani Thiessen (Heather McCoy)
Thousands of teenage boys across America fell in love with Tiffani Thiessen when she starred as Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell. Another early highlight of her career was her guest spot in Married With Children, in which she played a mean girl at Bud’s high school.
Today, Thiessen is still acting. She can be seen on the Netflix sitcom Alexa & Katie, and she also guest-starred in the much anticipated Saved by the Bell reboot in 2020.
